Argonne Scientists Receives Award for Contributions in Intelligent Transportation Systems

On February 6, 2004, the Intelligent Transportation Society of the Midwest (ITS Midwest) held its annual meeting in Schaumburg,
Illinois, with the theme "Transportation Safety and Security." The meeting included a Service Award ceremony,
recognizing the contributions of Dr. Adrian Tentner from Argonne National Laboratory. Dr. Tentner is one
of the founders of the Society and served as the first President for seven
years, while directing Argonne's intelligent transportation systems program. He helped foster many ITS-related activites
in the Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee area and nationally and led the successful ITS Midwest effort to bring the ITS World Congress
to Chicago in 2002.
ITS
Midwest
is
a
regional chapter
of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), including the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
Its objectives
include
- Promoting
and enhancing public safety and community welfare by fostering research and development
- Implementing programs to reduce
motor vehicle deaths and injuries
- Improving mobility
- Promoting a system of safer, more economical, energy efficient,
and environmentally
sound highways and other surface transportation through the use of advanced technology.
The membership of ITS Midwest includes over 65 organizations ranging from public transportation organizations, such as the
Federal Highway Administration, Illinois Department of Transportation, Indiana Department of Transportation, Wisconsin Department
of Transportation, Chicago Department of Transportation, Chicago Department of Aviation, to private companies, such as
Ford, General Motors, Motorola, and research organizations, such as Argonne National laboratory, The University of Illinois
at
Chicago, the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Purdue University.
