Midwest Energy Summit attendees visit TTRDC

Glenn Keller takes Midwest Energy Summit attendees on a tour of Argonne’s Transportation Technology R&D Center.

Regional leaders toured Argonne's Transportation Technology R&D Center during a May 13-14 visit to the laboratory for the Council on Competitiveness Midwest Energy Summit. Glenn Keller, section leader for vehicle systems, gave the group an overview of Argonne's transporation research.

The meeting focused on how forward-looking investments and policy will make for a more successful and sustainable Midwest. It was sponsored by Argonne, the University of Chicago and Caterpillar, Inc. In addition to Argonne Director Eric Isaacs, attendees represented regional and international academic, government and industrial institutions.

Attendees at the summit contributed to the Council on Competitiveness’ agenda for addressing the nation’s energy needs. A nonpartisan, nongovernmental organization in Washington, D.C., the council shapes the debate on competitiveness by bringing together business, labor, academic and government leaders to evaluate economic challenges and opportunities. Conferences, seminars and special events are used to disseminate the council’s findings and recommendations to experts, policy makers, government officials, media and the general public. The council’s president is Deborah L. Wince-Smith, who is also a member of Argonne’s Board of Governors.

Welcoming remarks were provided by University of Chicago President Robert Zimmer, and the opening keynote was presented by John Rowe, CEO and Chairman of Exelon Corp.
