HEV Modeling:
Medium and Heavy Duty Modeling

Although PSAT development was initiated to simulate light duty vehicles, the software capabilities have been extended to simulate medium and heavy duty vehicles in support of the 21 Century Truck Partnership.

The purpose of the Partnership is to accelerate the introduction of advanced truck and bus technologies that use less fuel, have greater fuel diversity, operate more safely, are more reliable, meet future emissions standards and are cost-effective. The ultimate goal is safe, secure, and environmentally friendly trucks and buses, using sustainable and self-sufficient energy sources that enhance America’s global competitiveness.

Numerous medium and heavy duty companies are using PSAT, including ArvinMeritor, Caterpillar, Cummins, DANA, International, John Deere, Lockheed Martin, and PACCAR to evaluate the fuel economy of advanced technologies.

Argonne National Laboratory is working with West Virginia University to validate several heavy duty vehicle classes, as well as with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to support the SmartWay activities.
