Energy and Environmental Policy Analysis

The federal government has supported policies and regulations designed to promote the use of new vehicle technologies and alternative fuels to reduce energy and petroleum use and pollutant emissions due to transportation. But these actions have costs as well as benefits. Argonne has conducted policy studies and evaluations of efforts to foster sustainable transportation technologies, Energy Policy Act (EPAct) requirements for purchase and use of alternative-fuel vehicles by government fleets, and the Clean Cities Program. Argonne has also assisted the U.S. Department of Energy in identifying potential alternative fuels for EPAct consideration.
