At the event, more than 200 attendees tackled what many agree is the greatest environmental challenge the world faces: climate change. Their overarching goal was to expand the understanding and address the enormity of the climate change challenges and questions facing policymakers. The session recognized while most technologies to reduce transportation emissions would initially come from Japan, the United States, and the European Union, most emission growth will likely come from Asia. The session explored how these issues are handled by international policy. It addressed such questions as, "Can it be demonstrated that domestic incentives and policies are likely to be far more effective than international rules and policies, and what might that imply? How might the economics of options be altered by different policy instruments?" * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Michael Wang made an invited well-to-wheels presentation on September 13 in Washington, D.C. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Michael Wang gave a presentation on biofuel energy and emissions benefits at the EPA's Mobile Source Subcommittee Meeting at the 15th International Symposium on Alcohol Fuels and Other Renewable Fuels on September 26-28 in San Diego, California. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * In his capacity as Operating Agent for Annex I (Information Exchange), Chris Saricks chaired the semi-annual Experts' Meeting and participated in the Executive Council Meeting of the International Energy Agency's Implementing Agreement on Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (IA-HEV) on October 4-7 in Rome, Italy. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Michael Wang attended the Hart World Fuels Energy Policy: A Global Perspective Conference on October 5-7 in Washington, D.C. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Michael Wang presented "Well-to-Wheels Results of Advanced Vehicle Systems with New Transportation Fuels" at the Advanced Transportation Workshop, Global Climate and Energy Project, on October 10-11 at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Amgad Elgowainy attended a sponsor meeting on October 12 at DOE Headquarters in Washington, D.C. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Ye Wu attended the China Workshop on Hg Control from Coal Combustion on October 31-November 2 in Beijing, China. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Amgad Elgowainy attended a project meeting with DOE sponsors on November 14-15 at DOE Headquarters in Washington, D.C. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Chris Saricks attended the Electric Drive Transportation Association Annual Conference on December 6-8 in Vancouver, Canada. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Michael Wang attended the 85th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board on January 22-26 in Washington D.C.
